The uMkhanyakude District Municipality, under the leadership of His Worship the Mayor, Cllr Siphile Mdaka, is abuzz with excitement as all roads lead to the district this weekend for the Annual uMkhosi woMhlanga (Reed Dance).
The district has noted a significant increase in activity within the hospitality sector, with hotels and lodges reporting a sharp rise in accommodation enquiries compared to the usual period. Dignitaries, tourists and visitors from across the province, South Africa and beyond are expected to descend upon our beautiful District to witness this iconic cultural celebration.
Local economic activity is also expected to receive a major boost. Street vendors and small businesses anticipate improved profits as the influx of visitors brings much-needed economic spin-offs to the region.
His Worship the Mayor, Cllr Siphile Mdaka, has called upon all residents to demonstrate the warmth and hospitality that uMkhanyakude is renowned for.
The Municipality invites people from all walks of life to come and experience the warmth and hospitality of our region.
"We are immensely proud of our maidens who will be showcasing their beauty and purity at uMkhosi woMhlanga, and we extend our deepest gratitude to His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini for his steadfast commitment to preserving our culture and keeping this sacred ceremony alive", said Mdaka.
