
UMkhanyakude District Municipality Mayor , Cllr Siphile Mdaka, has commended communicators from across the Province of KwaZulu-Natal for their excellent work and for serving as a critical support mechanism for government.
Mayor Mdaka delivered his message of support on the final day of the two-day Provincial and local Government Communicators Forum, held at the uMkhanyakude Council Chamber in Mkhuze.
He emphasized that the work of communicators is of paramount importance to the functioning of government.
"Communicators are the voice and the face of government. More often than not, Communications departments receive the smallest budget despite playing an impeccable and indispensable role in keeping our communities informed and strengthening public trust in government," Mayor Mdaka said.
Mayor Mdaka further called upon municipalities to adequately capacitate and resource Communications Units to ensure coordinated, effective and responsive government communication.
The highly successful Communicators Forum was convened by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) under the theme: "Inspiring New Hope."
