A fatal motor vehicle accident has occurred on the N2 between Jozini Turnoff and Mkuze Bridge.
Two vehicles were involved – an articulated truck carrying Class 3 chemicals and a VW Polo.
It is alleged that the truck was travelling from North to South and the Polo from South to North when the Polo lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the truck.
The collision claimed two lives (a male and female). A child less than a year old survived with injuries. The truck driver also sustained injuries.
All emergency services are on scene. Stop-and-Go is in progress and the road is closed to allow forensic teams to conduct their investigation, which may take ±3 hours.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
- From Empangeni towards Pongola / Jozini: Use Ubombo Road from Mkuze to Jozini to join the N2.
- From Pongola towards Empangeni: Use Jozini via Ubombo Road to Mkuze to join the N2.
The Municipality extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and be patient.
