New MM vows to deliver. 

A newly appointed uMkhanyakude District Municipality Manager, Mxolisi Nkosi has vowed to turn around the cash-strapped rural municipality into a well-oiled machine.The former Kokstad and Msunduzi Municipal Manager and former Chief Executive. 

Officer of Ntingo OR Tambo Development Agency believes the key to his success will be to adhere to policy compliance and to revive professionalism among employees to ensure the municipality delivers on its core mandate to the people.The much travelled Nkosi boasts a wide range of experience both in the public and private sectors. He started working at uMkhanyakude at the beginning of March this year.

‘My main task is to ensure there is compliance in every department and that everything is done within the ambit of the law. 

‘I will be also preaching a gospel that all employees need to work as per their job description. Employees must report to work on time and knock off at an appropriate time. They must do what they are paid for. As a municipality we have a duty to equip our staff members so that they become valuable assets,’ he said. Nkosi said he will focus on revenue collection and prioritise water distribution and electricity to all four municipalities under uMkhanyakude District comprising Jozini, uMhlabuyalingana, Big5Hlabisa and Mtubatuba. 

Nkosi holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting science. Part of his academic qualifications include a leadership development certificate, diploma in business management, certificate programme in executive Leadership municipal development programme, management development for municipal finance and advanced certificate programme in management and development for municipal finance .

His professional career started in 1997 when he was appointed as part-time tutor with former Technikon SA (UNISA). He also worked as CEO at KZN Tourism Authority and head of Internal Audit at Icasa.

uMkhanyakude District Communications Manager, Mdu Dlamini, said they were delighted to have Nkosi on board. 

‘We believe his work experience will add value to this municipality. He turned things around at Msunduzi Municipality, leaving that municipality with a positive bank balance,’ said Dlamini.
